Exploring Whether to Settle in Boulder Over New Years

My partner Jen and I will be visiting to Boulder, CO from the morning of Wednesday, December 27th and leave early morning on Tuesday, December 2nd.

We're looking for Zaadsters to meet up with – as well as a New Year's Party with a good mix of spiritual activists and integrally-minded folks.

We've moving in early April and have narrowed down our choices to Boulder or San Francisco.

Please let us know if you have any suggestions for some places we should check out while we're in town to get a good sense of the community.

Below is a compilation video blog of us over a six-month period that we did during videoblogging week 2006.

Thanks,
-Kent.

Aside from being one of the greatest cities on the earth, San Francisco and the Bay Area also has the following going for it that I think you will find very, very interesting. Click on the link below…

The sizable advantage one has in venture capital.  Considering our line of work, we need all the opportunies we can get, right?

Anyway, I thought it an interesting bit of info, and hopefully useful to you.

Also, I enjoyed watching the video and it got me to thinking about something.  In the past, we inherited our spiritual legacy from our parents and the path they tread.  True it still happens, but look how much people are starting to follow their own path.

And then there is the change in the fact that spirituality more and more is fueled by experience, rather than sheer belief.  How many more people are inspired not by what they read, but what they have experienced in their lives?  It's an interesting possibility for what we are moving toward, no?

Hey Darshan,
Thanks for that graphic.  Wow.  I didn't know that there was THAT much investment going on in SF Bay area.  I guess it makes total sense with all of the tech start-ups out there.  And yes that could definitely be a good thing to be rubbing shoulders with some of this crowd.  (I'm leaning towards SF at the moment, but we're going to give Boulder a serious look).

And yes, I do think that people are starting to follow their own path.  I think now more than ever it is possible to create your own job description and start your own business.  From eBay to blogging to online video to Search Engine Optimization – there are so many careers that exist now that would be conceptually impossible to understand 12 years ago without the Internet.

And I was thinking about the difference between reading vs. watching and experiencing as well.  I believe that information is processed on different sides of the brain when you read something vs. hearing or seeing something.  This is precisely why I think audio and video will continue to be so huge online – because it is able to take people places that text alone simply can't.

For the amount of efficient knowledge transfer, sometimes textbooks can't be beat.  But yes, I do think that creating subjective spiritual experiences for people is going to be a growth industry in the new millenium.

Thanks for the note,
-Kent.

Hey Kent…

Now I am finally amongst the cool kids who get notification whenever people post a comment!

Whatever comes for you in your path, I look forward to your unfolding.  I am definitely the type of person who believes that everything happens for a reason, so wherever any of us end up, there is reason for us to be there, or to know the people we come to know.  I don't necessarily believe in a “benevolent creator”, but more like a cosmic flow that propels and carries us all.  I don't believe in accidents but on the other hand, I have come to open myself to the idea of serendipity.  The more we open ourselves to the possibilities in the world, the easier it becomes to see the signs.

I have no doubt that you and Jen will end up where you need to be.  And in time, it's something that we will all come to see…

Peace,

–D.

Hey Darshan,
Glad that you turned on that notification – zaadz should make that the default as it helps with comment conversations.

Anyway, thanks for the good wishes, and I think we're actually leaning towards San Francisco now.

Funny that you write about non-accidents (i.e. synchronicities) – since I just left this comment about this post asking what people thought of synchronicities:

“My immediate response to synchronicities is that I believe in them.

“My second response is that it's entirely possible that I believe in the myth of synchronicities – meaning that it could be a convenient story that I tell myself in order to evoke the useful behavior of surrendering and releasing control.

“Synchronicities are a story of causality that I tell myself to find deeper meaning and connection between those gut feelings that tell me I'm on the right path.  And the more that I believe in the story, the more that they seem to happen.  So being in the flow seems to come from immersing myself into the possibility.  When I try to analyze or deconstruct it, then it seems to break the flow.”

So yes, trying to ride the wave and flow…

PS – check out these 10 rules for doc filmmaking that I came across today.  Some may resonate with your short film.
